New Development of The Week: ‘17-Foot-High-Ceiling Lofts’

30 06 2009

You’ve all heard the incessant radio ads, and you’ve undoubtedly heard about it from a friend or family member.

Now I’m here to review this new project; this project that I knew was a sham as soon as it was launched.

I’d rather call this “8.5-Foot-High-Ceiling Lofts, Times Two.”

Do the math for the price and for the ceiling height, and it just doesn’t add up…

That Ship Has Sailed!

9 12 2008

A reader emailed me the other day seeking my advice on pre-construction and its viability under the current market conditions both in terms of investment and as a principal residence.

I’ve been touting pre-construction as a fantastic investment vehicle for the last three years, but times change.

As I told my curious reader, “That ship has sailed, my friend.”

New Development Of The Week: U Condominiums

11 11 2008

A developer I know told me four years ago that if I could put together a deal for the land at the corner of St. Mary’s Street and Bay Street, that he would buy it in cash in a heartbeat.

I told him that land was long, long gone, and one day it would be a condominium.

Well, that day is here, and the condo is just around the corner…

New Development of The Week: Emerald City Condos

28 10 2008

Emerald City, eh?

That’s also the name of the experimental prison unit in the television show “OZ.”

Well, hopefully this version of Emerald City will have less fighting, stabbing, and hurt feelings…

New Development of The Week: Merton Yonge Condos

10 10 2008

The vacant lot at the southeast corner of Yonge & Merton has been destined for a new condominium project for quite some time.

Many of us have been eagerly awaiting the project, but eventually, our excitement died out.

“MYC” was launched this week, but in my opinion, it’s too little, too late…

New Development Of The Week: Festival Tower

9 09 2008

Did anybody see the headline on the front of Saturday’s Toronto Sun?

It read: “Film Fest Elitist!“  It sure came as no surprise to me.

What also should come as no surprise, to anybody, is me absolutely PANNING the new Festival Tower

New Development of The Week: Chicago Condominiums

7 08 2008

“Chicago Condominiums?” I asked myself when I first got the package.  Why do I care about real estate in Illinois?

Once I realized it was in Mississauga, I remained confused but this time due to the choice in name.

I mean, are there any condos in Chicago called, “Toronto Condominiums?”

New Development of The Week: Huntington

30 07 2008

Oh the irony!

As I sit here typing this post on my blog, my back is absolutely throbbing!

The ironic part?  The project I’m writing about, Huntington, is going to be built on the site where the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College was just recently demolished…

New Development Of The Week: Market Wharf

17 06 2008

How do you judge a new condominium development in terms of it’s value?

What criteria do you look at first?

Location?  Design?  Layout?  Price?  Amenities?  Developer?

Any of these are crucial to the success of the project, and they all get a thumbs up in my book…

New Development Of The Week: CHARLIE CONDOS

24 04 2008

Charlie.

Oooookaaaaaaay.

Are they running out of names for condos?  Is the name “Dave Condos” just not quite as cool as “Charlie”?

Say what you want about the name; the location is prime.  But I have a few reservations about the project itself…
