I don’t mean to be a prickly pear, but I’d like to spend this week dwelling on all the people out there just waiting to screw over consumers.

How many companies in the service industry are hatching new schemes to dupe consumers or put them into products that don’t serve their best interests?

From mortgage brokers to banks to credit card companies - I’ll examine them all this week, starting on Monday.

I was nearly drooling when I first saw the pictures of this new $1,595,000 condo in the heart of Toronto’s Entertainment District.

I began to daydream about living there, but then a thought occurred to me:

Would I rather own a house for the same price?

Selling Like Hotcakes!

As soon as the doors opened at 4K Spadina Avenue, the frenzy began.

It’s been one week since owners took possession of their new units at the latest addition to CityPlace, and every day brings 6-8 new lisings onto MLS for rent or sale.

But surprise of all surprises: these units are moving!

Wake Up!

Some sellers still long for the days when every single house in the city received multiple offers; those days when they could set up a lawn chair on a hot summer day and watch the throng of potential buyers pass through their threshold.

Those days have long since passed, and sellers need to be aware of the potential pitfalls that could plague them.

Or, you could walk right into it….like the seller in the following story…

My Favorite Building In The City

I often get asked, “Which is your favorite building in the city?”  It’s not an easy question to answer.

On the one hand, I’m biased towards my own building.  On the other hand, how can I not say that I’d love to live at 10 Belair Street in Yorkville?

I’ve mentioned this building in passing before, but today I’d like to do a whole feature on 15 Stafford Street

Child Friendly Street!

It’s no secret that we’ve moved towards a much more balanced real estate market, and surely some “deals” exist out there amongst all the speculation.

One such deals is a house on Thursfield Crescent that I’m amazed is still on the market.

The term “child friendly street” is one of the most over-used terms in real estate, but this street just might be the most child-friendly I’ve ever seen…

Say any word fifteen times in a row, and it will momentarily lose all meaning.

But the word “clutter” is very common in real estate, and it’s a word you don’t want to hear about your listing.

The appearance and condition of a house or condo goes a long way towards selling it…..or not.

New Development Of The Week: U Condominiums

A developer I know told me four years ago that if I could put together a deal for the land at the corner of St. Mary’s Street and Bay Street, that he would buy it in cash in a heartbeat.

I told him that land was long, long gone, and one day it would be a condominium.

Well, that day is here, and the condo is just around the corner…

Extenuating Circumstances

Real estate has no fixed value, and thus the valuations fluctuate every single day.

You might get “lucky” when it comes time to sell your property due to a host of reasons, but you might also have terrible timing or be the unlucky recipient of extenuating circumstances.
