This made me LOL...you're observations are very Seinfeld-esque! I'm guilty of of the above! Especially the casual "I'll just check my email" blackberry technique...I also recently noticed that I'll get into an elevator, move immediately to one side and then lean sideways against the railing. It suddenly dawned on me how much of a defensive/submissive stance this is.

The day after I noticed this, I quickly decided i had to change things up. On my next trip up the elevator I stood straight as an arrow, stared straight ahead and kept my hands at my sides (not even in my pockets). It felt so liberating.

Then one day I got on a crowded elevator, went to the back and stood facing the rear wall -instead of straight ahead like all the lemmings. Yes, I got some strange looks, but what's the difference, right?

Now, wanna know what I do? I step in the elevator, and I stand in the doorway and I face the other passengers and I stare at them. No joke. If they look at me, I smile. If we stop at another floor, I move out of the way, but that's what I do.

Makes you wish you lived in a building akin to the downtown office towers, with express 10-20/21-30 elevators, eh?
