The Tale of Two Investments…

20 08 2007

I’m contemplating making another move in the real estate market.

Until last week, when I arrived in Ajijic, Mexico, I was jet-set on purchasing another pre-construction condominium in downtown Toronto.

Now, I’m wondering if a piece of vacant land in a country I just went to for the very first time represents the best real estate investment I could make…

Listing of The Day: SPIRE!

18 08 2007

I can totally picture this: Four marketing guys sit in a room together trying to figure out a new “hip” name for a Toronto condo.

Multi-word names like “King George Square” are soooo yesteryear! That’s too much to think about, too much to say!

People want one-word names, the fewer syllables, the better: Rezen, Mozo, Icon, Soho…

So how many marketing geniuses, how many hours in a boardroom and how many cups of coffee did it take to come up with the name, Spire?

“Cahoots!” Well, I’ve heard this before…

17 08 2007

When I posted on Tuesday, telling the story of a girl who recently accused me of being in “cahoots” with another agent, I got an email from a reader asking me to tell another story like this.

I guess it’s funny….to everybody but ME!

But here is a story of another know-it-all young couple that knew how to make terrible decisions, blame other people, and watch the market rise out of their price range while they stood idly by…

Listing of The Day: 120 Courcelette Road

16 08 2007

How many bedrooms would you hope to get for about a half-a-million dollars?

Sure, it depends on the location and the neighborhood.

But would it surprise you to hear of a ONE BEDROOM house for that price?

It kinda surprised me…

Wanted: Condos For LEASE!

15 08 2007

Time and time again, I have heard people talk about how soft the rental market is in Toronto.

Tell that to the girl that left her $290/month Waterloo sublet to come and pay $1300/month to live in Toronto!

Or how about my clients that lost three places in three days, and are still scrounging to find a place for September 1st…

Listing of The Day: The Hudson!

14 08 2007

Imagine if your balcony looked out over a busy city street from the 3rd floor.

Would you love it? Or would you hate it?

It’s quite hit or miss, but at one of the most popular new buildings in downtown Toronto, the price simply can’t be beat…

Gardiner Expressway Condos

13 08 2007

I was in the car last night driving along the Gardiner, and my buddy says to me “Where the heck did all these condos come from??”

He hadn’t been to Toronto in ten years, and last time he was outside Skydome, there was a clear city skyline.

You know the ones you see that line the Gardiner outside Skydome??

Here’s the rundown…

Listing of The Day: Chocolate Lofts!

9 08 2007

The Chocolate Lofts and The Candy Factory are two of the most popular buildings in the city, but I often wonder if people are just impressed with the buildings’ names.

Namesake aside, Queen West is an up-and-coming neighborhood, Trinity Bellwoods Park is the largest greenspace in downtown Toronto, and the social scene in this area is booming with places like The Drake, Camera Bar, and…well, The Social…

Patio, Balcony, Terrace….Oh My!

8 08 2007

In yesterday’s Listing of The Day, I mentioned the importance of the large, private patio at 550 Front Street.

While not every condominium unit in Toronto has a terrace, let alone a 450 square foot patio, most condos have at least some outdoor space.

Still, others don’t.

And it makes me wonder how these units can sell, let alone, be built in the first place…

Listing of The Day: 550 Front Street

7 08 2007

“Outdoor Space”

Patio, terrace, balcony—you name it.

In my opinion, this is the most important feature of a condominium, whether a $250,000 unit or over $1,000,000.

Once you are barbecuing on your private patio while trimming your rose bushes, you’ll thank me…
